About us
Central Building Control is a partnership of six Building Control teams from Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Tamworth, South Derbyshire, Nuneaton & Bedworth, and North Warwickshire councils. We are the local authority service for each of those councils.
Lichfield District Council hosts the partnership, which means that Lichfield District Council is the local authority across the partnership area for all ‘Building Control’ related legislation, and is the Council that will set fees, grant or reject Building Regulation applications, issue completion certificates, and take enforcement action.
The team is responsible to a steering group made up of senior managers at each council, and a partnership board made up of councillors from each council.
The partnership has a number of duties under various legislation, and consequently provides the following services:-
- Building Regulation compliance checks
- Building Regulation enforcement
- Registration of Initial Notices
- Registration of competent person scheme notifications
- Relaxation of Building Regulations (or the Secretary of State can do this)
- Dangerous structure enforcement
- Demolition notification
We act independently to ensure that compliance with standards and legislation is achieved. We work across all types of building projects, and our inspectors are registered with the Building Safety Regulator, or their work is supervised until they hold the necessary competency assessments and registration. This means that our staff have to abide by a national code of conduct.
The service is subject to operational standards rules, plus external audits by the regulator and our ISO 9001 quality management system.
Please note that Building Control, and Building Regulations, are not planning functions. All questions or concerns regarding Planning Permission should be directed to the relevant partners planning team.
