Competent Person Schemes
An alternative option for some small works, or parts of a much larger project, is to use installers registered on a relevant competent person scheme. These schemes are approved by a government department (MHCLG) for Building Regulation purposes only, and should not be confused with any other government approved competency scheme.
Schemes exist for the following work: –
- Cavity and solid wall insulation in an existing building
- Combustion appliances (e.g. gas, oil or solid fuel boilers)
- Electrical installations
- Heating and hot water systems
- Mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning systems
- Plumbing and water supply systems
- Replacement windows, doors, roof windows or rooflights
- Replacememt of roof coverings on pitched and flat roofs
- Microgeneration and renewable technologies
Installers must register your installation with the local authority within 30 days via there registered scheme. When they have registered your installation, you will receive an installation certificate, and we will get a notification which sits in our system.
Where the installation is part of a wider scheme, e.g. an extension, we need to receive the notification before issuing the completion certificate.
