Submit a building notice application

You can only submit a building notice for domestic works, unless there is a public sewer within 3m of any extension or new building. This means that if any part of the work relates to a flat, communal area (e.g. in a block of flats), or commercial premises, then you will need to submit a ‘Building Control Approval application with full plans’.

A building notice does not provide you with approval of your works, and everything carried out is at your risk.

If our inspectors identify compliance issues during our inspections, you will need to undertake these at your cost. Please note that we cannot provide any feedback that could be construed as design advice. If you or your builder do not know what is required to demonstrate compliance then we recommend the submission of the building control approval application with full plans.

We recommend building notices only for simple works such as minor internal alterations.

Please check our fees and charges before applying. You will need to enter the fee payable into the online form, and then pay using our online payment system once you have submitted your application.
